Tigers defeat London, fall to Washington in tri-match

GREENFIELD — For the second time this season, the McClain Tigers hosted a home wrestling meet as they improved their home mark to 3-1 on the year, splitting a tri-match as they defeated the London Red Raiders and fell to the Washington Blue Lions.
The South Central Ohio League matches began with the Tigers defeating the Red Raiders, 54-21. That match was followed by Washington winning over the Red Raiders, 66-15 and the Blue Lions defeating the host Tigers, 54-21.
[[In-content Ad]]For the Tigers, winning against both the Red Raiders and Blue Lions were Coty Barnhart (132), Roscoe East (170), Brandon Davis (220) and Dylan Trefz (285).
MHS is now 10-5 on the season.
Individually for MHS, Barnhart is now 23-7, while Badgley is 21-6 and Davis leads MHS at 24-3. East is 23-4 this season.
"I'm happy with both matches," McClain head coach Shane Paul said. "Washington hasn't lost yet, so they were a good challenge for us.
"We had a few guys who didn't lose, and the entire team fought and battled hard, and that's all I can ask for. Again, I'm really pleased with how we competed."
Against London, the Tigers began with Ethan Paul (MHS) defeating London's Blake Snyder via pin fall at 152 pounds.
Gable Smith (MHS) followed with a pin fall win over Harley Threlkeld (LHS) in the 182-pound match. Roger Pack (LHS) pinned Brendon Goble (MHS) at 195 pounds.
At 285 pounds, Dylan Trefz (MHS) defeated Austin Birman of LHS via pin fall.
London won the next two matches, as Bryce Mayne (LHS) won with a 14-10 decision over Kylee Stroud (MHS) at 106, and Alex Dorsey (LHS) won with a pin fall against Jamaine Barnhart of McClain.
At 145 pounds, McClain's Jacob Badgley defeated Billy Boysel (LHS) with a pin fall victory.
For MHS, winning by forfeit against LHS were Brandon Nebbergall (160), East (170), Davis (220), Kaleb Smith (126) and Barnhart (132). Winning for LHS with a forfeit victory was Jose Velasco (120).
Winning against the Blue Lions for the Tigers was East at 170 pounds by a 5-3 decision over Mason McCane.
Travis Hawk of Washington pinned Gable Smith of MHS in the 182-pound weight class, and Cameron Shaw (WSHS) won with a pin fall over Goble at 195 pounds.
Davis brought MHS closer with a pin fall win over Tyler Riley at 220 pounds.
Jerry Knapp (WSHS) won with a pin over Stroud at 106. That was followed with WSHS winning the next three matches as Shawn Murphy pinned Barnhart (113), Kole Trigg won with a forfeit and Nathan Wilson pinned Smith in the 126-pound class.
Barnhart won for the Tigers, winning his 132-pound match with a 10-3 decision over Caleb Williams. At 138 pounds, Anthony Smith (WSHS) won with a major decision (16-4) over Badgley (MHS).
Washington's Levi O'Neill (145) won with a forfeit, and at 152 pounds Tye Smith won with a pin fall over Ethan Paul (MHS). Washington won the final varsity match of the evening with Jimmy VanDyke pinning Brandon Nebbergall in the 160-pound class.
The next matches for the Tigers will be another home tri-match as they will host the Hillsboro Indians and Paint Valley Bearcats.
