GREENFIELD — The first quarter didn't look so swell for the McClain Tigers. They opened the first eight minutes of the season with zero points.

But don't tell that to this Tiger team, especially on Friday, as they rallied down 10-0 after the first quarter to defend their home court by a score of 60-41 in their 2011-12 season opener at McClain High School.

The Tigers trailed 23-20 at halftime, but it must have seemed like a victory of sorts because they outscored their opponent 20-13 in the second, then added 18 more points to their total in the third for a 38-35 advantage after 24 minutes of play.

McClain then used their defense (holding Jackson to six points) and their offensive firepower (scoring 22 points) in the fourth and final frame to finish the night with a 19 point win.

The game belonged to MHS freshman Ryan Faulconer as he led all 17 scorers with 22 points. The freshman made 10 two-point buckets, and for good measure added two free throws to his overall totals.

Sophomore Evan Mustard scored 10 points for the Tigers, and Brent Shannon added seven points to the Tigers' overall totals.

Making 3-pointers for MHS on Friday were Shannon, Roger Carroll, Thomas Schrader and Phillip Thompson.

MHS was 12-of-20 (50 percent) from the free-throw line and totaled 18 two-point and four three-point baskets.

Also scoring for MHS were John Turner (5), Trey Lytle (2), Carroll (3), Schrader (5), Jeremiah Savage (3) and Thompson (3).

Leading Jackson High School was Colt Chapman with 13 points. Chapman had a dunk during the game.

MHS totaled 13 turnovers and JHS has 12. JHS committed 19 fouls and MHS had 18, six in the first half.

McClain (1-0) take the court again on Saturday at the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic as they will face Westfall at 4 p.m.
