Tigers close, but fall to league-leading Clinton-Massie

GREENFIELD — A few points here and there in the first and third quarters added up to a South Central Ohio League loss Friday night for the McClain Tigers. The Tigers were close to knocking off the league-leading Clinton-Massie Falcons but just didn't get close enough, falling to CM, 46-40.
As far as points here and there are concerned, in the first quarter the Tigers (1-9, 5-12) were outscored by the Falcons, 9-5.
CM (8-0, 11-2) and the Tigers tied for 10 points each in the second. In the third, the visiting Falcons scored 14 points, while MHS totaled 10 in the same span. The fourth frame saw MHS outscore CM, 15-13, but the scoring wasn't enough to take the lead.
Ryan Faulconer led the Tigers with 12 points, followed by John Turner with nine and Tyler McGuire with seven.
Also for the Tigers, Evan Mustard added five points, Brent Shannon scored three and both Jeremiah Savage and Thomas Schrader each scored two.[[In-content Ad]]
Leading CM in scoring was Cory Saddler with 11. J.D. Curtsinger and Tyler Uetrecht each added 10 points. Isaac Dell totaled eight points, and rounding out the CM scoring were Josh Loud with four points and Trent Smart with three.
MHS was 11-of-17 (65 percent) from the free-throw line, while CM went 15-of-20 (75 percent).
From beyond the arc, the Tigers had five 3-pointers, as Turner made two, and Mustard, Shannon and Faulconer each made one. For CM, Saddler connected twice for 3-pointers, and Curtsinger made one.
Other totals for MHS included 19 fouls, 16 turnovers and 25 rebounds, with Faulconer leading with eight; while they added five steals and seven assists. Totals for CM were: 18 fouls, 14 turnovers, 26 rebounds, six steals and seven assists.
MHS will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 29 as they travel to East Clinton.
