GREENFIELD — The McClain Tigers and the Paint Valley Bearcats returned to the baseball diamond Monday for their first scrimmage of the preseason. Though the game wasn't completed with two lightning and rain delays, both teams did get two complete innings of work in along with part of a third inning, ending with a 1-1 score at Mitchell Park.

The game was full of sunshine, rain, cloud cover, thunder and lightning, sometimes all at the same time.

Starting on the hill for the Tigers was senior Jacob Dillon. Dillon pitched two innings, with four strikeouts, two walks, one hit and no runs.

Dustin Taylor pitched one inning for McClain, with one strikeout, three walks and one hit.

At the plate in the opening scrimmage for MHS, Taylor reached on a walk in the bottom of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, MHS sent seven batters to the plate, finishing with no hits, four walks and one run.

The MHS second started off with Ryan Case drawing a four-pitch walk, followed with walks by Ryan Perie and Brent Shannon. Case scored on a wild pitch. Also drawing a walk in the inning was Dillon.

Paint Valley, of the Scioto Valley Conference, scored their one run in the top of the third.

MHS had six official at-bats in the scrimmage, striking out three times. The Tigers are scheduled to have a scrimmage on Tuesday, March 22.

The Tigers lost seven seniors from last season's South Central Ohio League co-championship team, which they shared with the Hillsboro Indians.

MHS opens the regular season on Monday, March 28 when they host the West Union Dragons from the Southern Hills League.[[In-content Ad]]
