Tigers avenge earlier loss, defeat Red Raiders

LONDON — This time, it was the McClain Tigers who left the court with a win in a game with the London Red Raiders. For the final time as rivals in the South Central Ohio League, the Tigers used an 18-0 run to open the game to defeat the Red Raiders, 53-43.
The win moves the Tigers to 3-9 in the SCOL and 7-12 overall, as this was the Tigers' second league win in a row.
The loss drops LHS to 7-11 overall and 5-7 in the SCOL. In their first meeting this season with the Tigers, the Red Raiders won in double overtime, 62-61.
As for the opening eight minutes of the matchup, the Tigers outscored the host Red Raiders, 18-4, including the first 18 points of the game. LHS didn't score their first points of the game until there was 1:22 left in the quarter as Zac Carey made two free throws for the Red Raiders. He also scored the other two points by LHS in the opening frame.
In the second frame, the Red Raiders outscored MHS, 15-9, but it was MHS that led at halftime, 27-19.
MHS led 10-9 in the third frame and kept the lead in the fourth as they added 16 points in the fourth, while London scored 15 points in the same span.

Leading the Tigers in scoring were Brent Shannon and Thomas Schrader each with 16 points. Shannon sank four 3-pointers, while Schrader made one 3-pointer. Also in double figures was Ryan Faulconer with 10 points.
Also scoring for MHS were John Turner with five points (one 3-pointer), Tyler McGuire with four and Philip Thompson with two points.
The Tigers were 3-of-7 from the free-throw line (43 percent).
As for LHS, they were led in scoring by Carey with 14 points, including one 3-pointer. Brok Bennett followed with eight points (two 3-pointers), and Kyle Fisher totaled seven points (one 3-pointer). Justin Long added five points, including one 3-pointer.
Scoring two points each for LHS were Sully Minner and Dustin Coffey.
LHS went 6-of-10 from the free-throw line (60 percent).
Both teams committed 12 turnovers, while MHS committed 12 fouls and LHS had nine fouls.
The Tigers will play again on Friday, Feb. 8 as they host the Washington Blue Lions.
