Tiger Sharks win at home

GREENFIELD — It was a successful night at McClain High School as the Tiger Shark boys swimming team finished in first place and the girls swimming team in second as they took on Chillicothe and Little Miami on Thursday.

The McClain boys won with a score of 118, followed by second-place Chillicothe (49) and third-place Little Miami (20).

For the boys, senior Trevor Figgins placed first in all the events he participated in, and it is the third meet he has achieved that feat this season.

The majority of the boys improved on Thursday, swimming their best times so far this season.

Daniel Mottie returned for the Tiger Sharks after suffering from pneumonia, dropping 18.07 seconds off his 500 freestyle (20 laps) time.

MHS sophomore Nick Torbett, who just began swimming the 200 individual medley, dropped another 6.81 seconds off his best time.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Daniel Mottie, Ron Wright, Nick Torbett and Jimmy Free dropped 16.03 seconds off their best time this season.

In the girls event, results included Chillicothe with 121 points for first place, McClain in second with 75 and third-place Little Miami, 45.

For the MHS girls, times improved in every event as freshman Kaylee Smith dropped 3.32 seconds off her best time in the 100-freestyle.

Senior Gretta Reyer dropped 2.83 seconds off her best time in the 100 Breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team consisting of seniors Jeana Copas and Gretta Reyer and freshmen Kaylee Smith and Amber Sowders dropped 13.09 seconds off their best time so far this season.

The following are the events that the MHS boys placed in…

• 200 Medley Relay
1st Place – MHS (2:10.17)   Swimmers in this relay were Trevor Figgins swimming the backstroke, Aaron Litteral swimming the breaststroke, Adomas Fabin swimming the butterfly and Tommy Free swimming the freestyle.

• 200 Freestyle
2nd Place – Aaron Litteral (2:24.68)

• 200 Individual Medley
1st Place – Kyle Brown (3:19.03); 2nd Place – Nick Torbett (3:24.19)

 • 50 Freestyle
2nd Place – Adomas Fabin (:25.62), 3rd Place – Tommy Free (:26.48)

• 100 Freestyle
1st Place – Trevor Figgins (:59.52), 2nd Place – Jimmy Free (1:04.71)

• 500 Freestyle
1st Place – Tommy Free (6:33.97), 2nd Place – Daniel Mottie (7:08.93)

• 200 Freestyle Relay
1st Place – MHS A Relay (1:49.81)  Swimmers on this relay were Trevor Figgins, Jimmy Free, Adomas Fabin, and Tommy Free; 3rd Place – MHS B Relay (2:07.35)  Swimmers on this relay team were Ron Wright, Daniel Mottie, Kyle Brown, and Aaron Litteral.

1st Place – Trevor Figgins (1:12.94), 2nd Place – Nick Torbett (1:31.14)

• 100 Breastroke
3rd Place – Aaron Litteral  (1:30.28)

The following are the girls events that MHS placed in…

• 200 Medley Relay
2nd Place – MHS (2:23.03)  For this relay Savannah Olaker swam the backstroke, Gretta Reyer swam the breaststroke, Morgan Dettwiller swam the butterfly and Amber Sowders swam the freestyle.

• 200 Freestyle
2nd Place – Morgan Dettwiller (2:29.89)

• 100 Butterfly
3rd Place – Jeana Copas (1:32.59)

• 100 Freestyle
2nd Place – Morgan Dettwiller (1:06.73)

• 500 Freestyle
2nd Place – Savannah Olaker (6:55.09)

• 200 Freestyle Relay
1st Place – MHS (2:08.22)  Swimmers on this relay were Savannah Olaker, Jeana Copas, Amber Sowders and Morgan Dettwiller.

• 100 Backstroke
1st Place – Savannah Olaker (1:10.20)

• 100 Breaststroke
2nd Place – Gretta Reyer (1:32.20), 3rd Place – Amber Sowders (1:33.96)

• 400 Freestyle Relay
3rd Place – MHS (5:25.38)  Swimmers on this relay were Jeana Copas, Kaylee Smith, Gretta Reyer and Amber Sowders.

On Saturday's swim meet against Chillicothe, Teays Valley and Portsmouth High School, the boys won with 135 points. CHS was second (72), Portsmouth was third (55) and TVHS was fourth (46).

The boys took first place in 6 of the 11 events. Senior Trevor Figgins took first place in all of his events. Senior, but first-year swimmer, Ron Wright dropped 4.6 seconds off his best time in the 200 Freestyle.

In the girls meet, CHS was first with 170 points. TVHS was second (127), in third was MHS (75) and fourth was PHS (28).

First-place finishes for MHS were senior Savannah Olaker in the 100 Backstroke and junior Morgan Dettwiller in the 100 Freestyle.

The swim meet will be Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Miami Trace. The meet starts at 5 p.m.

The next home swim meet will be Saturday, Jan. 7 against Summit Country Day and SCOL league rivals Miami Trace and Washington, starting at 10 a.m.[[In-content Ad]]
