Tiger golf wins SCOL crown
The McClain Tiger boys golf team completed a journey started in mid-August and now have been crowned South Central Ohio League champions.
MHS won the SCOL tournament by eight strokes with a score of 325, on the par 72 course, at Crown Hill in Williamsport on Thursday.
Leading the Tigers was Jacob Branham with a score of 76. J.T. Bunner followed with an 80 for MHS. Tanner Vanzant scored an 83. Other Tiger scores included: Jeff Baker-Hester 86, Dustin Taylor 91 and Caleb Cockerill 93.
The Washington Blue Lions finished second with a 333, followed by London 335, Hillsboro 354, Clinton-Massie 354, Miami Trace 365 and Madison-Plains 379 in the final league event of the season.
The Tigers have a record of 23-1.
“We knew going into the tournament we were in the lead, and had to finish no worse then second for at least a share of the SCOL crown,” MHS coach Tim Bolender said. “The kids did absolutely wonderful, and I couldn’t be prouder.
“I can’t say enough about how well our golfers performed this year, on both the varsity and junior varsity levels. They worked hard through the season and played steady. We had eight different kids play varsity this year, and six of them return next year.”
MHS plays in the sectional tournament this Tuesday at Jaycees Golf Course in Chillicothe.
