On Saturday, Jan. 10, the Southern State Women's Patriots basketball team lost a tough matchup 70-68 against the visiting Ivy Tech-Central Indiana Bears.
In the first half, SSCC would start out strong. Jessica Solaro (Adams County Christian) would control the paint area with three quick baskets. After that, it was all Ivy-Tech, building their lead up to 15 points with three minutes left in the first half.
SSCC came together and began playing defense, cutting the Bears' lead down to 33-30 at halftime.
Starting the second half, SSCC scored only nine points in the opening 12 minutes. The Bears' lead grew to 18 points, but again SSCC fought back, and with 1:40 left, SSCC took the lead at 68-67.

The Bears went down and missed a shot attempt, but SSCC gave up an offensive rebound and put-back, putting the Bears up 69-68. Bears added a free throw for the final score, 70-68.
SSCC was led in scoring by Megan Sword with 26 points off the bench. Natasha Barr scored 18, and Jessica Solaro grabbed 11 rebounds.
"We did a very poor job rebounding today, and it cost us the game," SSCC women's head coach Matt Wells said. "The Bears were so quick, but we did not quit all day. Coming back twice being down double digits, it shows how far we have come along.
"We need to do a much better job on the boards. Usually, that is all about effort, and today we just did not have it. I'm proud of the fight we showed but disappointed how we let this one get away."
