SSCC women earn 4th win of season

The Southern State women's basketball team came away with their fourth victory of the year, Thursday evening, as they defeated Ohio University-Chillicothe at the Patriot Center, 90-56.
This was the second time this season SSCC has defeated the visiting OU-Chillicothe team.
SSCC controlled the game from the very beginning.
The Lady Patriots were led by Hillsboro alum Kelsey Juillerat with a game- and career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds, giving her a fifth straight double-double.
Juillerat was 12-of-18 (67 percent) from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc and 1-of-3 from the free-throw line.
"It was a night where Kelsey really set the tone of the evening for the whole team," SSCC women's head coach Matt Wells said. "We did not settle for contested shots. We moved the ball around really well.
"As a team, we had 25 assists. This was a great individual night for Kelsey, but this was by far our best team effort of the year."
The women shot a combined 47 percent from the floor in the first half, as they led by 16 points (38-22) at the half.
Beginning in the second half, OU-Chillicothe made a big run on the Patriots, getting the score within 10 points at 53-43.

"We came out in the second half flat and had no energy," Wells said. "We really have struggled after halftime with our intensity, but the ladies went back to what worked in the first half and started to feed the post and knock down timely three pointers."
For the second half, SSCC shot 16-of-23 (70 percent) from inside the arc and 5-of-11 (45 percent) beyond the arc.
"It was a great shooting night for us, but we have been shooting a lot better since the winter break," Wells said. "We just have had to play some very strong teams, but we could tell things were coming together."
As for the rest of the scoring, Megan Sword (Fairfield) totaled 16 points, while Haley Bingamon (Whiteoak) would net 14, shooting 6-of-8 (75 percent) from the field.
Jessica Sexton (Peebles) had 13, and both Mercedes Grisham (Ripley) and Jordan Beasley (Adams County Christian) each had six points. Ashley Crone (Whiteoak) dished out four assists.
"We are trying to finish the season on a strong note, so we have momentum going into the offseason," Wells said.
SSCC will back in action Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at Patriot Center vs. Wright State University-Lake.
