SSCC tops Sinclair and WPAFB

Following two straight losses by a combined seven points, the Southern State men's basketball team has won their past two games by defeating Sinclair Community College and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

In their win over Sinclair on Dec. 1, the Patriots won by a score of 89-64 with a second half of complete domination as they outscored their opponent 50-26. The score in the first half was 39-38 in favor of Southern State.

The Patriots (6-2) had four players finish with at least 15 points. Leading the SSCC scoring was Isiah Walton with 20 points and 18 rebounds for a double-double, while adding three steals.

Holt totaled 19 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Ty Harris finished with a triple-double, collecting 15 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds. He added one steal.

Kamorin Harris ended with 15 points, five rebounds and one steal.

Also scoring for SSCC were DreSan Mathis (eight), Keontez Malone (five), Brandon Whitlock (five) and J.R. Blair (two). Defensively for SSCC, Whitlock had 10 rebounds and four blocks. Mathis added nine rebounds and one block. Malone had three rebounds and two steals.

Jalen Gordon had one rebound.

For the game, SSCC was 13-of-22 from the free-throw line. Sinclair was 14-of-28 from the free-throw line. From the field, SSCC was 36-of-83 (43 percent).

On Dec. 2, SSCC defeated WPAFB, 82-81.

SSCC led 40-36 after the first half but were outscored 45-42 in the second half.

In their one-point win, SSCC had five total players finish in double figures with Ty Harris with 16 points, followed by Holt and Walton with 15 points each.

Whitlock totaled 13 points, and Kamorin Harris ended with 11.

Also scoring for SSCC were Gordon (3), Malone (2) and Mathis (7).

The Patriots totaled 34 rebounds, two blocks, 12 steals and 16 assists. Leading SSCC in assists was Ty Harris with five. Malone led SSCC with four steals, and Holt led the Patriots with seven rebounds.

From the free-throw line, SSCC was 19-of-30, and SSCC shot 30-of-63 from the field for 47 percent.

Walton leads all SSCC scorers with 118 points (14.8 ppg), followed by Kamorin Harris with 115 points (14.4 ppg). Ty Harris has 106 points this season (13.2 ppg), and Holt has scored 103 points in eight games (12.9 ppg). Whitlock has 91 points this year for 11.4 ppg.

Walton is averaging a double-double thus far by adding 10.9 rebounds per game.

SSCC will play again on Friday, Dec. 7 at Valor Christian College at 7:30 p.m. SSCC will play at home again on Monday, Dec. 10 vs. WVU-Parkersburg at 6 p.m.
