In two games over this past weekend at the Patriot Center, the Southern State women's basketball team dropped games to Penn State Greater Allegheny and Kentucky Christian University.

In the loss on Friday, the Lady Patriots fell by a score of 82-72 against PSGA, and on Saturday against KCU, the Lady Patriots lost, 97-59.

The game went back and forth until the 5:00 mark in the second half, as that is when SSCC had two players foul out, and from there, they did not sustain the play that gave them the lead late in the second half.

Against PSGA, Sarah Rosselott led SSCC with 24 points, while Natasha Barr totaled 21 points. Also in double figures in the scoring column was Megan Sword with 12 points.

"This is the type of player Sarah is capable of being every night," SSCC head coach Matt Wells said. "Sarah plays the game like it is supposed to be played. What she did (Friday) was something as a coach I look forward to what she can do for the next two years.

"Natasha was her steady self once again. She can create her own shots and right now can score on anyone."

Rainelle Casey led SSCC with seven rebounds, while Rosselott and Jessica Solaro each had four rebounds.

"Rainelle showed her hustle and rebounding effort," Wells said "She is starting to get the feel for the college game."

Sword also had a team-high four steals.

There were a total of 58 fouls in the game.

The following night SSCC was defeated by KCU, 97-59, a program that has won numerous national championships.

"We played with no energy or effort in the first half," Wells said. "Against a team like Kentucky Christian, we cannot do that. They are well coached and have a great tradition.

"They came out and just whooped us. I was very disappointed by our effort after how strong we played on Friday. The team learned a lot from this game."

Wells was more pleased with the second half.

"During the second half we played much better, but we are like a great roller coaster ride right now," he said. "Up and down, twists and turns, but we have not enjoyed the thrill at the end of the ride, yet."

In this game, SSCC was led by Barr with 23 points (six rebounds) and Sword with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Wells also spoke about the defense of his team.

"Right now, we are not a strong defensive team," he said. "Defense is all about effort and attitude. We usually get one or the other, but never both and never the whole team.

"Our attitude and effort needs to ramp up if we expect to compete at this level."

For the season, SSCC is 0-5.
