Snyder named new Fairfield varsity basketball coach

LEESBURG — Everett Snyder was officially named the new Fairfield varsity boys basketball head coach during a Fairfield School Board meeting, Monday.
Previously, Snyder was the boys varsity basketball coach on two other occasions from 1992-96 and in 2002, as he will replace former head coach Matt Carson, who resigned from the position earlier this month. For the 2011-12 season, the Lions finished 11-10 overall, 7-6 in the Southern Hills League, for second place in Division II of the league.
"I'm excited," Snyder said on becoming the new varsity head coach. "We have a good group of kids coming back next season. I've coached most of the kids that will be seniors since fourth grade, and the kids that will be juniors I've coached since they were in the seventh grade.
"I feel those two groups can mesh well together, and I'm familiar with the kids on the team."
Snyder was on the coaching staff for Fairfield last season, coaching the JV team. Additionally, Snyder was previously the FHS boys varsity soccer head coach, and he, along with Raymond Friend, helped bring back the Fairfield track & field program.
[[In-content Ad]]As for setting up his basketball program, Snyder said he's sitting down to work on the program from the seventh-grade level to the varsity level.
"First off, I'm working on lining up coaches from the seventh-grade level on up," he said. "We've started the weight training program, and with this season being allowed to have 22 games, we are adding on additional quality non-league opponents (Westfall and Zane Trace) to go with an already tough non-league schedule."
Snyder said he's glad to continue to work with the kids in the basketball program this upcoming season.
"I'm happy to continue to working with the kids," he said. "They work hard, and if they continue to work hard, we can have a successful season."
Snyder is a graduate of Whiteoak High School. He attended Miami University one year before graduating from The Ohio State University. Snyder is a teacher in the Fairfield School District.
