State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) May 22 recognized Jaylynn Parker from New Richmond for setting the new state record for catching the largest blue catfish.
"I am impressed by the outdoor spirit of so many of our young people across southern Ohio, and Jaylynn is an excellent example," Johnson said. "What a great adventure this has been for this young lady and her family. All of Ohio applauds her.”
On April 7, Parker caught a 101.11-pound catfish from the Ohio River with the help of her father Chuck Parker and family friend Jeff Sams. This catch breaks the previous record by over five pounds.
Ms. Parker caught the fish by using a technique called jugging, which involves tying a high pound test line to a large jug and pulling the fish in by hand.
"Perspective is important here: Jaylynn pulled a fish in by hand that is around the same size as her," said the Senator.
