Rivas named 2nd-team All-State

McClain senior Luis Rivas, a four-year starter for the Tigers was recently named to the 2011 Ohio High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State team.
Rivas was named second-team All-State for Division II.
“Luis is a great kid and very unselfish,” McClain boys soccer Shawn Jackson said. “I started coaching him when he was a freshman and realized he was going to be a special player when he made a goal from 40 yards away against Chillicothe in the tournament.
“He made his own way ... sometimes he could take a game and change the outcome himself.”
The senior was a part of three consecutive South Central Ohio League championships and was named All-SCOL and All-District for his accomplishments this past season. Rivas was also a part of the first Tiger team to win a sectional championship.
Rivas is the first McClain soccer player to be named All-State as he wrapped up his career with 64 goals and 54 assists, both MHS records.
“It’s a great honor to coach a player like Luis,” Jackson said. “To be able to coach a player like Luis brings a smile to your face.”
Rivas also made All-State last season in Track & Field in the 400-meter dash.[[In-content Ad]]
