In one month, all of us will be at a high school football game celebrating the opening week of the 2014 high school football season.
Two-a-days start at the end of this week, then scrimmages will follow, and from there, in exactly one month from this very day, we'll all get a chance to see how all of that hard work has paid off for the teams that we watch.
Before we go into a little detail, here are Week 1 games for the South Central Ohio League (SCOL), the Scioto Valley Conference (SVC) and the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference (SBAAC):

Many of the games on the slate for the first week are good matchups, as one of my favorite season-opening games is the McClain Tigers against the Adena Warriors. I've covered this season-opening matchup since the 2007 season, and a few of those games have been very good contests, especially with a couple of them coming down to the final possession and even final play.
I'm also interesting in seeing how the three SVC champions from last year begin their '14 campaign, as all three teams (Paint Valley, Westfall and Zane Trace) qualified for the playoffs as well in '13.
Especially with Paint Valley, since I see them a few times each year … they really have my interest because I believe they can have another very good, playoff-caliber season this year.
Of course, there are the Falcons of Clinton-Massie. They are the defending Division IV back-to-back state champions, and though they will be without Bayle Wolf this season (graduated), this team always seems to have another player waiting for his opportunity to shine, and I'm guessing it will be no different this season.
Remember, CM will play their first game on a Thursday night, Aug. 28 against the Blanchester Wildcats.
Those are just a few matchups I'm looking forward as we wait just one more month, but before those games can reach their potential, there is still the matter of preparing for those games with summer practices.
So as we wait for the practices and games to begin, let's all wish the best of luck to all the teams, players and coaches for all the work they are about to put in for this next month and before that. Football preparation isn't easy, but it will all be worth it once the games begin in a month.
Best of luck to the players and coaches as we wait for the regular season to begin.
