Lead Summary

On Saturday morning, the 2014 Highland County Press football camp visits wrapped up after two weeks as I saw the Miami Trace Panthers scrimmage the Waverly Tigers at Panther Stadium.
I was told it was a big improvement over their first scrimmage, and from what I watched, I felt the Panthers did a good job with their running game. If I remember correctly, their starting defense and their second team defense didn't allow a single touchdown.
If anyone knows MT football, then you know they like to run the football, and that's what I felt they did well on Saturday, especially a 60-yard (around that area) touchdown run by Jeremiah Jones, who wasn't going to be stopped by anyone when he had the ball on that run.
Having most of their offensive line back will really help MT as well.
[[In-content Ad]]In talking with head coach Steve Bartlett following the two-plus hour scrimmage, he said he tells his team this:
"Football teams, they never stay the same – they get better or they get worse, and you just have to strive to make sure you are getting better every day."
This scrimmage was a good way to wrap up the camp/scrimmage visits for the First and Ten Preview, and I had a good time doing this for a fifth consecutive season.
One of my favorite parts of this is just getting to see all the progression by the team from when I start this and when I see/read about them later in the regular season.
Also, I want to thank all the coaches I've had the opportunity to talk to in person and by phone or email these past couple weeks, as I know it is a busy time of year for all of us, and it is much appreciated.
Tomorrow (or later this week), I'll go over some other thoughts from these camp visits and scrimmages as we are less than two weeks away from the start of the regular season.
Next up on the football visits is the annual Fish Fry Scrimmage, which is also the day the 2014 edition of the First and Ten Preview is scheduled to be released.
Thanks everyone for reading, and this should be a very fun football season for the surrounding area.
