Hillsboro Post 129 was finally able to play at Shaffer Park this summer but ended up dropping two games to visiting Circleville Post 134 by scores of 15-1 and 1-0 Tuesday.
The second of the two games was the more memorable one for the home club as they only lost by one run, but it was a game of many missed opportunities as they left nine runners stranded on the bases.
"We are just in the same rut we've been in the past five or six games where we just aren't getting the hits," Post 129 head coach Scott Morgan said. "We get runners on the bases, but we just need that one clutch hit to bring the runners around."
In game two, Post 129 (5-8) collected five hits and four walks but left all nine runners stranded, starting by leaving the bases loaded in the third inning.
That was followed by leaving runners on second and third in the fourth, one runner left stranded in the fifth and two runners standing on the corners in the sixth inning.
In the seventh, Hillsboro had Brent Shannon force a walk to lead off the inning. He stole second but never got any further as Post 129 was retired with a strikeout, a fly ball to left field and a fly ball to right field to end the game.
At the plate in game two, the Hillsboro squad went 5-for-26, while also forcing four walks.
Camden Vinup led at 2-for-3, while Corey Walker had one hit and one walk. Joey Wilson and Shannon gained the other two Post 129 hits. Also with walks were Austin Merkle, Stephen Pappas and Shannon.
The lone run in game two by Post 134 of Circleville came in the fifth inning with McKinney drawing a leadoff walk and scoring two batters later on an RBI double by Shannon with one out.
Derek Peters was charged with the loss for Hillsboro, facing 28 batters, though he pitched his best game of the season. Peters went six strong innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks. He struck out five and hit one batter.

"Derek had a heck of a game," Morgan said. "This was his best outing of the season, we just didn't get him any runs."
Walker pitched the seventh inning in relief. The HHS grad struck out two of the three batters he faced, not allowing a hit or walk.
Then there was the first game of the doubleheader for the Post 129 squad, and it didn't go so well for the home team as they lost by 14 runs in a 15-1 score.
Hillsboro's lone run was scored in the seventh with Luke Taggert scoring on an RBI single by Blake Hildebrant with two outs.
Post 129 as a team went 5-for-25 at the plate with one walk, one sacrifice and once they were hit by a pitch.
Taggert and Hildebrant each had two hits, with Taggert going 2-for-3 and Hildebrant going 2-for-2 with a sacrifice. Wilson was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.
Tyler Griego was charged with the loss. Kyle Carson and Jared Halley pitched in relief. Griego pitched into the seventh inning, finishing with three strikeouts.
Circleville scored one run in the first, followed by a three-run second inning. In the seventh, Post 134 added 10 runs.
Over the weekend, Hillsboro went 2-3 at the Troy Wooden Bat Tournament. Hillsboro lost to Ann Arbor, 12-0 and Troy Post 43, 6-1. They followed that with a 1-0 loss to Whitehouse.
Post 129 defeated Beverly, 3-2 with Docter batting in the game-winning run on a single. Scoring the winning run was Griego. The score was tied at 2-2 after five innings. In the fifth, Post 129 saw Merkle score a run off an RBI triple by Griego. Griego scored on a base hit by Halley.
Halley was also the winning pitcher, pitching 1.2 innings of relief.
Hillsboro ended their weekend with a 12-10 victory.
