HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Post 129 baseball club split a doubleheader with the Post 25 Aces from Washington Court House, losing game one by a 3-1 score, but winning game two at 13-4.

The win in the nightcap of the doubleheader was the first win of the summer for the Post 129 squad, as they lost their first two games to open the season against Circleville Post 124.

Overall, Hillsboro is 1-3 overall and 0-3 in their summer South Central Ohio League schedule, as their three losses were all league games. The night cap win over Post 25 was a non-league game.

"(Nick) Bush threw pretty well, and Jesse (Walker) came in and did the rest," Post 129 head coach Scott Morgan said. "There are some little things we need to correct, but there is nothing that is totally unfixable."

In Tuesday's twin bill, in game two, the Post 129 team won by a 13-4 score, but lost the league game by a 3-1 score in eight innings, with the Aces scoring two runs in the top of the eighth for the win.

As for the victorious second game by Post 129, they scored runs in all seven innings played, including a one-run first with Wyatt Crothers leading off the inning with a walk, eventually scoring the first run.

In the second inning, Ty Crum rounded the bases for the Post 129 run.

Hillsboro added four runs in the third inning with Isaiah Liggins, Crum, Morgan Ryan and Cameron Spangler all adding to the Hillsboro lead. Liggins walked to get on the base, and Crum was hit by a pitch. Ryan also walked, and Spangler reached on an error.

The fourth inning had Post 129 score two more runs with Tyler Williams and Joey Wilson crossing home plate with Williams hitting a double and Wilson taking first base after being hit by a pitch on the elbow.

Post 129 continued to score runs with a two-run fifth, as Crothers and Crum kept the innings scoring streak alive.

In the sixth inning, Hillsboro added three more runs with Liggins, Crum and Ryan all rounding the bases.

Crum finished the second game scoring four of the 13 Hillsboro runs. Crothers, Liggins and Ryan each finished with two runs in the win.

The winning pitcher for the Post 129 team was Nick Bush.

For the Aces, they scored one run in the second and three more in the fifth.

In the first game of the doubleheader, which Post 129 lost 3-1 in eight innings at Richard Shaffer Park, the Post 129 team scored their lone run in the top of the first with Blake Hildebrant scoring off a ball hit by Jared Halley.

The Aces tied the score in the fourth inning, then took the lead in the top of the eighth with two runs crossing the plate for the league win.

Tyler Muncy was charged with the loss for Post 129.

"In the first game, Muncy pitched a heck of a baseball game," Morgan said. "We didn't give him much support. We are hitting the ball, it just isn't finding the holes right now.

"It is a long season, and we always start off kind of slow, so it is a matter of getting everyone together and getting the bats in the right spot in the lineup and going on from there."

Hillsboro opened the 2014 season on Sunday in two games at Teays Valley High School against Circleville Post 134. Post 129 lost both of the games by scores of 7-3 and 3-1, with both being league games.

In the first game, Hillsboro scored two runs in the fifth inning with Zach Cox and Crum crossing home plate with RBIs from Hildebrant and Bush.

In the sixth, Post 129 scored their final run of the game with Wilson scoring off a sacrifice by Cox. Post 129 finished with four hits in the first loss of the season.

The loss was charged to Gage Carraher, who pitched 4.1 innings. Carraher allowed five earned runs on eight hits and no walks. He finished with two strikeouts.

"Our pitching has been there every single game," Morgan said. "From starters to relief, they've kept us in the game."

Post 129 in the second game against Post 134 saw their second loss of the season come by a 3-1 score. The lone run came in the fourth inning with Taylor Greene rounding the bases. He initially took first base on a single, as that was the lone hit of the game for Post 129. The RBI was by Williams.

Wilson was charged with the loss. He pitched all six innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and one walk. He finished with three strikeouts.

Hillsboro will play again on Saturday when they face Waverly in two league games at Waverly High School, with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at noon.
