Post 129 drops games to Portsmouth and Pickerington

Following a split doubleheader at Shaffer Park on Wednesday, the Hillsboro Post 129 baseball team dropped games on consecutive days on Thursday and Friday with a 2-1 loss to Portsmouth Post 23 and 6-2 to Pickerington Post 283, both away games.
Their loss to Portsmouth Post 23 was a summer SCOL game, putting Hillsboro at 6-2 in league play. The two losses on Thursday and Friday put Hillsboro at 14-19 overall.
In the Thursday game at Portsmouth, following a rain delay, Hillsboro allowed two runs in the bottom of the first inning. That was all the home Portsmouth club needed to keep the lead, as Hillsboro scored just one run in the top of the second.
Hillsboro's run came when Zach Docter (who singled) scored on a double by Derek Peters. Both hits by Docter and Peters came with two outs in the inning.
From there on, Hillsboro was held to one more hit in the final five innings, coming in the fourth inning off the bat of Joey Wilson. For the game, Hillsboro had just three hits. After the single by Wilson in the fourth with one out, Hillsboro didn't gain another base runner as they were retired in order for the remainder of the game.
The winning pitcher for Post 23 was Derek Moore, and the loss was charged to Post 129's Brandon Wilson. Wilson pitched six innings for Post 129, allowing two earned runs. He gave up four total hits, while walking none with three strikeouts.
Post 23 had three sacrifices, and Hillsboro committed two errors.

On Friday night at Pickerington, Hillsboro, again, was held to two runs, against a tough Post 283 squad, falling 6-2.
Hillsboro scored their runs in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Scoring the runs were Brandon Wilson and Corey Walker. Wilson led off the inning with a walk, and Walker singled. Tyler Griego batted in Wilson, and Walker scored on an error.
Pickerington rallied back in the fourth inning, with two runs (off a two-run home run) to take a 3-2 lead. From there, they added three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pickerington's first run was scored in the bottom of the first inning.
The loss was charged to Joey Wilson, and the win went to Montel. Wilson totaled four strikeouts, allowing six runs (three earned), while walking one and hitting one batter.
