The Southern State Patriots defeated the Ivy Tech Eagles 92-88 in a very close game played at the Patriot Center.

Ryan Inman (Lynchburg-Clay) led all scorers with 28 points. Alec Smith (Lynchburg-Clay) had 19 points.

"This was a statement win for us," SSCC head coach Blake Kibler said. "This was a huge win. Ivy Tech is the most talented, athletically gifted team we have played all year. What we have done is shown that our kids from around our area can compete against inner city kids.

"This was a team win and a much-needed win."

Coach Kibler spoke about the play of Inman.

"Ryan Inman took his game to the next level. He is gradually getting more confident in his game each time he's out on the floor."

The win improved the Patriots to 6-4 on the season.

In games earlier this month, the Patriots went 1-1 in two weekend games, losing to Clark State, 80-67.

In the loss to Clark State, the leading scorer for the Patriots was Luke Taggert (Whiteoak) with 16. Also, Alec Smith (Lynchburg-Clay) and Ryan Bates (Fairfield) both scored 15.

"It's hard to beat a team that you spot 18 points right off the tip," Kibler said. "It was 30-12 the first ten minutes, and then we decided to play. The team is starting to figure out you can't play like that with this type of competition.

"Playing 40 minutes of basketball has been hard for us at times. We got within five points at one point. Again, we've got to play hard and execute efficiently for 40 minutes."

Two days later, the Patriots traveled to Lima to face the Ohio State-Lima Bruins. The Patriots came home with a 104-78 victory.

Leading scorers were Inman and Smith, with 25 points apiece and recording a double-double.

Inman finished with 13 rebounds, and Smith finished with 15. Taggert also finished with 19 points in the road win.

"We won this as a team. We shot the ball well because of good ball movement and unselfish play," Kibler said. "We also sat in our gaps pretty well and stopped their dribble penetration. We got a much needed win tonight. Our two Gages did not score a lot of points but distributed the ball very well. Again, great effort on both ends of the floor."
