Patriots regroup, defeat WVUP

Southern State hit the road and returned back to the winning side of things as they defeated West Virginia University-Parkersburg Saturday afternoon, by a 104-81 score.
SSCC (17-3) bounced back with the road win by leading with a halftime score of 41-38 and dominating the second half by 20 points, winning the final 20 minutes at 63-43.
In the game at WVU-P (8-9), the Patriots shot 48 percent from the field, including 59 percent from inside the arc. At the free-throw line, SSCC was 23-of-35.
"We played like a Top 5 team in the country throughout the second half on Saturday," SSCC head coach Travis McAvene said. "We played good team defense to start the second half, which helped us expand our lead at halftime.
"Our basketball team is 12 minutes away from being undefeated this season, and we have a strong desire to finish strong these last five games of the regular season."
Tyron Harris led SSCC with 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds

Kamorin Harris finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Isiah Walton totaled 16 points and seven rebounds, along with one block.
"Tyron Harris and Kamorin Harris both played solid throughout the entire game," McAvene said. "They both gave our team a lot of energy and leadership, which was needed being on the road in West Virginia.
"WVU-Parkersburg was 8-8 going into yesterday's game and had some good talent. Our next focus is to prepare for Clark State on Thursday and continue to win."
Brandon Whitlock added 12 points and nine rebounds. Diondrey Holt, Jr. and Martise McLaurin each scored 11 points. Also scoring for SSCC were Jalen Gordon with seven points, Dante Bryant with one point, Jovon Freshwater with four points and JR Blair with four points.
McLaurin led SSCC with four steals, and Freshwater added three steals.
SSCC will play again on Thursday, Jan. 31 as they host Clark State at 7:30 p.m. They will follow that with a game on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Patriot Center as they host Wright State-Lake at 3 p.m.
