Patriots fall to Sinclair CC for 1st loss

For the first time this season, the Southern State Patriots didn't have the higher score after 40 minutes of basketball as they lost to Sinclair Community College 86-83 Monday at the Patriot Center in Hillsboro.
The loss puts SSCC at 4-1 overall.
In the first half, the Patriots trailed 42-39, and each team scored 44 points in the second half.
SSCC was led in scoring by Ty Harris with 16 points, followed by Brandon Whitlock with 15. Isiah Walton and Kamorin Harris each scored 14 points. Tyrand Cumberland was the fifth Patriot in double figures with 12 points.
Through five games, Kamorin Harris leads SSCC with 15.6 points per game, followed by Walton with 15 ppg. Walton is averaging a double-double with 10.8 rebounds per game.
Whitlock is averaging 12.4 ppg, while Ty Harris totaled 12.2 ppg, and Cumberland also is averaging 12.2 ppg. Holt is the sixth Patriot averaging double-digit ppd with 11.8.
In the game, SSCC made seven 3-pointers, led by Cumberland with four (he shot 57 percent from the 3-point line).
SSCC had just 10 free-throw attempts, converting eight. Against Sinclair, SSCC shot 43 percent from the field.

Defensively, SSCC totaled 11 blocks in the loss with Walton collecting seven. Cumberland totaled two, while DreSan Mathis and Whitlock each had one.
Walton led SSCC with 13 rebounds for a double-double. Whitlock also earned a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Harris led the Patriots with eight assists, and he also was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
SSCC will take the road for the next four games as they play Wednesday, Nov. 28 at UC Clermont, Saturday, Dec. 1 at Sinclair CC, Sunday, Dec. 2 at WPAFB and Friday, Dec. 7 at Valor Christian College. SSCC will return home on Monday, Dec. 10 when they host WUU-Parkersburg.
