BAINBRIDGE — The Paint Valley Bearcats left Friday night with their perfect mark still intact, as they defeated visiting Africentric, 46-0 at George Knisley Field.
The Bearcats (3-0) dominated from the very start of the non-conference contest and never looked back as they collected 344 yards of offense, with 333 yards coming on the ground.
PV head coach Pete Hollon spoke about working on the depth of the team in Week 3.
"In a game like this, you are able to work on a lot of depth issues, and finally our PAT team was fairly consistent," Hollon said. "We are rotating a lot of kids on special teams … we are trying to keep our first team offense and defensive players off the field as much as possible on special teams.
"I thought we ran the ball really well."
PV's big leader in the rushing game was senior Mark Clifford, who carried the ball 11 times for 158 yards and four touchdowns. Clifford's scores went for 51, 1, 7 and 12 yards.
Then, on the defensive side of the ball, unofficially Africentric (0-3) was held to -6 offensive yards by the Bearcats. The defense also forced a fumble in the first half and had an interception by junior Corey Freeman in the third quarter.
"The defense has played like that all year," Hollon said. "I want to credit Africentric. They are a real classy group of kids. They had a unique situation the past two weeks with some team issues. They could have easily decided to not come down and play.
"You have to tip your hat to them. We are really in the business to mold young boys into men, and sometimes it may not show it on the scoreboard, but the afterthought of everything we went, we competed, we survived."
PV opened the game with a three-play, 60-yard drive when Clifford scored the first of his four touchdowns on a 51-yard rush to the end zone, In the drive, Clifford rushed for all 60 yards, and he also converted the PAT with 10:35 left on the clock.
With 4:24 left in the first quarter, Clifford was back in the end zone, this time carrying the ball one yard through the visiting defense for six points and a 13-0 lead. PV began the drive on the 8-yard line following a blocked punt.

For the second time in the second frame, the Bearcats were standing in the end zone with sophomore Teagan McFadden pounding his way past the defense of Africentric for one yard and the touchdown. The sophomore was responsible for all three plays in the 38-yard drive, including runs of 12 and 49 yards.

PV opens Scioto Valley Conference play next week as they travel to face the Unioto Shermans.
"As far as the first three games, we've seen two speed teams and a true power team last week," Hollon said. "We feel good about the things we've done, but going forward we have our hands full with the SVC schedule. We go to Unioto next week, then to Zane Trace and we host Southeastern … we couldn't have three tougher opponents to start league play.
"We feel good where we are at health-wise, and execution-wise we are OK, but we also know that next week we have to be on our 'A' game."
