No. 9 ranked SSCC wins over USCAA No. 1 Valor

The season for the Southern State Patriots continued to be on the winning side as they gained their third consecutive win Friday evening by defeating Valor Christian College, 93-87, who was the No. 1 (Division 2) ranked team in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
This is the first time the SSCC Patriots defeated a No. 1 team in the nation.
The 7-2 Patriots are currently ranked No. 9 in the USCAA (Division I). This season, SSCC has won four in a row, lost two, then rebounded with a current streak of three wins.
SSCC trailed at the half against VCC, 39-38, but they came back strong in the second half by outscoring their opponents by seven points at 55-48 in the last 20 minutes.
"Our players competed (Friday) for 40 minutes and earned a hard-fought win against the No. 1 team in the country (USCAA Division II)," SSCC head coach Travis McAvene said. "We are playing good basketball right now and getting quality wins. I want our players to remain hungry and not be satisfied to our good start to the season."
Kamorin Harris led SSCC with 32 points, followed by Diondrey Holt with 16, Ty Harris with 15 and Isiah Walton with 11.
"Kamorin had a huge night on the offensive end," McAvene said.
In the 32-point effort, Kamorin Harris was 11-of-21 from the field (52 percent from the field) with four 3-pointers, along with being 1-of-3 from the free-throw line. Defensively, he added seven rebounds, one steal and one assist.
After nine games, Kamorin Harris leads SSCC with 16.3 points per game.

Walton gained a double-double as he grabbed 13 rebounds with his 11 points. Walton is averaging 14.3 ppg and 11 rebounds per game.
Also adding points to the SSCC totals were Tyrand Cumberland with two, DreSan Mathis with nine and Brandon Whitlock with eight, including two 3-pointers.
Ty Harris had four steals (one block), followed by Walton with three. Mathis also tallied one block.
As a team, SSCC was 47 percent from the field (34-of-71), including six 3-pointers. SSCC totaled 17 turnovers.
The game scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10 against West Virginia University-Parkersburg at SSCC has been canceled.
SSCC wll next play on Wednesday, Dec. 12 when they host WPAFB.
