DODSONVILLE — Southern Hills Athletic Conference rivals Lynchburg-Clay and Eastern Brown took a combined 21 shots at goal Wednesday evening at LCHS, and each team left emptyhanded in their quest for a goal.
The Mustangs and Warriors left the SHAC matchup with a scoreless tie after 80 minutes of soccer, but even with the offense unable to generate any points, the defense of both teams were on point.
"We just suffered from three weeks and just having one game before (Wednesday)," LC head coach Dennis West said. "We were stale the first half, and the second half, we played much better.
"We had great shots and had opportunities, we just didn't finish on them. The second half is more like we've been doing all season. Up until (Wednesday), we have been playing pretty good consistent soccer."
The tie leaves LC with an overall mark of 3-1-3 overall.
In the first half, the Mustangs had just six shots at the goal. This was the first game for LC since Monday, Sept. 8 when they defeated the Miami Trace Panthers by a 3-0 score.

"The first half was painful to watch," West said. "We were slow to the ball and weren't attacking the goal. It seemed we were just running in place, but again, the second half was much better.
"Eastern has a good club. Devin (Pierson) was back after his concussion, and he played well on the goal for us. We'll pick up … we have a game Friday, and from there, we'll have a regular schedule for the rest of the season."
As for the LC defense … this was their second consecutive shutout in recent games. As stated earlier, Pierson (the LC keeper) returned to the field for the first time since having a concussion against the Hillsboro Indians on Aug. 26, a game where LC and HHS tied at 2-2.
Pierson finished the match with seven saves, two in the second half.
Besides the play at keeper, the LC defense had another excellent night.
"Again, Wes Smith and Austin Chisman … those two were outstanding (Wednesday)," West said. "We got good play from Bobby Merry and Jared McLaughlin. Jared has been one of our senior captains, and he's just been solid for us this year.
"Wes and Jared went the entire 80 minutes and did a good, solid job. It was difficult not to win, but we shut out a good team as well. It was a good job by our defense."
EB keeper Mickey Hundley finished with 10 saves (seven in the second half).
