Mustangs unable to rally; fall to Huntsmen

After having a Southern Hills League game postponed on Friday, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs were able hit the road Saturday night but were unable to return home with a win, falling to the Huntington Huntsmen, 59-50.
"Huntington is a very talented team," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said. "At times we looked good, then at other times their pressure got to us, and we turned the ball over too much."
The Mustangs (6-5) and Huntsmen were tied 8-8 after the first quarter. The Huntsmen led 23-17 at the halftime.
In the third, Huntington started hitting their shots, pushing the lead to 12 after 24 minutes.
The fourth went back-and-forth, but LC was unable to make a run to cut into the lead of Huntington.
Gage Waits and Tyler Davidson scored 16 points apiece to lead the Mustangs.
[[In-content Ad]]Ryan Inman scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss.
After 11 games this season, the Mustangs are averaging 55.5 points per game.
"This was a good non-league test for us," McLaughlin said. "From our mistakes, we will learn from it and become a better ball-handling team."
The loss moves LC to 6-5 overall. In league games this season, LC is 2-3. The Mustangs are scheduled to play again on Friday, Jan. 20 when they travel to take on the Peebles Indians. Their game originally planned for last Friday (Jan. 13) at North Adams has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 14 at NAHS.
