In recent matches this past week, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeated the North Adams Green Devils and fell to the Eastern Brown Warriors, moving to 2-3-1 overall.

LC, who currently sits at 1-2 in the Southern Hills League, lost to the Warriors (at EBHS) 3-1 on Sept. 15, but the previous day defeated the Green Devils of North Adams 6-1, also on the road.

Against NA, the Mustangs scored five of their six goals in the first 40 minutes for a 5-1 halftime lead.

Scoring first-half goals for LC were two by Chaz Lanier (one from 20 yards out), two by Noah Scott and Wesley Smith. The second-half goal was from Gage Waits on a free kick from 25 yards out. Waits also had an assist.

Kendall scored the lone goal for NA with 2:15 left in the first half.

"This was our best offensive shooting of the season," LC coach Dennis West said. "We moved the ball well, and our defense continues to improve."

Against EB on Sept. 15, LC scored once, with 12:03 left in the first half off the foot of Scott as he beat the defense off a dribble.

Scoring for EB were Lawson (two goals) and Handra.

LC out-shot the Warriors 17-14.

"The team played hard but allowed Eastern too many opportunities," West said. "We continue to play inconsistent soccer. The breakdowns are growing less frequently but still will cost us against quality opponents."

LC will play again on Wednesday at home when they host Ripley.
