Scoring 24 points in the first quarter eventually led to the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeating Highland County rival Fairfield by a 68-60 score in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory.
The Mustangs' win at Fairfield's Grandle Gymnasium began with the Mustangs totaling a 24-6 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Each team scored 13 points in the second frame, with LC gaining a halftime lead of 37-19.
As for the second half, the Lions outscored the visiting Mustangs with an 19-11 third frame and a fourth quarter of 22-20, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Mustangs for a SHAC win.
Leading the Mustangs was senior Alec Smith with a double-double as he totaled 22 points and 17 rebounds in what is the Mustangs' sixth win of the season and second straight victory.

LC moves to 6-1 overall and 4-7 in the SHAC. The Lions fall to 6-6 in the SHAC and 9-10 overall.
Ryan Inman followed with 17 points and two rebounds, while Jacob Skaggs totaled 14 points and five rebounds. Devin Pierson followed with 12 points and seven rebounds. Also scoring was Gage Waits with two points and four assists.
