Mustangs top Green Devils

Scoring one run in the first and three more in the sixth was enough for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs to defeat the North Adams Green Devils, 4-1 Thursday at NAHS.

The Mustangs led by one run through five innings and added three final runs in the sixth for their four total runs for the Southern Hills League win.

For LC, Tyler Davidson had two hits, and Chaz Lanier tallied two RBIs. Gage Waits and Scott Cawood each had one RBI.

The Green Devils scored one run in the bottom of the seventh.[[In-content Ad]]Gaining the win was Cawood, who pitched seven innings, while striking out seven. Cawood threw 86 pitches, 49 for strikes, including 13 first-pitch strikes to the 23 batters faced.

Ryan Inman pitched one inning of relief in the seventh for the save. Inman struck out three. Inman threw 20 pitches, 10 for strikes.

In the loss, North Adams' Hank Sparks struck out 10 Mustang batters. Sparks threw 98 pitches, 73 for strikes. Sparks threw 24 first-pitch strikes to the 29 batters he faced.

The win moves the Mustangs to 2-2 in the SHL and 3-5 overall.
