Mustangs throttle West Union

Make it five in a row for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs after Friday night as they defeated the West Union Dragons, 72-35 at LCHS.
LC (5-7, 9-11) has built their team to be prepared for the upcoming tournament, and it started early for the host Mustangs in the first quarter as they outscored their opponent 13-7 in the first quarter and 20-8 in the second frame for a halftime lead of 33-15.
In the second half of their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game, it was West Union who led the scoring in the third at 14-10, but LC dominated the final eight minutes of the game with a 29-6 final frame.
The Mustangs are 9-4 in their last 13 games.

Junior Ryan Inman led the Mustangs with 20 points, as he made eight two-point shots and was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Inman added two assists, one block and 12 rebounds for a double-double, and to cap things off, he totaled one steal.
Senior Alec Smith followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds for another double-double. Smith also had one steal, one assist and one block.
Tyler Allen totaled 13 points, and the fourth LC player in double figures was Gage Waits with 10 points.
Also scoring for the Mustangs were Jacob Skaggs with four points, Devin Pierson with eight points and Scott Cawood with two points.
Pierson led LC in assists with six and in blocked shots with two. LC totaled 41 rebounds (15 offensive), nine steals, along with 15 team assists and four blocks. The Mustangs committed 16 turnovers.
From the free-throw line, the Mustangs were 13-of-19.
LC will wrap up the regular season on Saturday evening as they will host Manchester in a SHAC game.
