Mustangs split weekend twin bill

The Division I Southern Hills League champion Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs split their weekend twin bill by defeating the Georgetown G-Men and falling to the Huntington Huntsmen Saturday.

In their 10-3 win against the G-Men, the Mustangs (10-2, 13-8) scored four runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth and added three more runs in the top of the seventh for the win.

Ryan Inman was the winning pitcher for LC, going all seven innings on the mound. Inman allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, two hit batters and three walks. He struck out nine batters in the win.

LC totaled seven hits, with Terry Campbell going 2-for-4, including a triple, with two runs and one RBI.

Zach Mahoney went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk, while Inman had one hit with two RBIs and one run. Scott Cawood also hit a double while collecting three runs, two RBIs and one steal. Tyler Davidson also had a hit. Gage Waits was 1-for-3 with a triple, two steals, one walk and one run.

Joey Butler had one walk and one run, while Josh Bauer walked once. Wes Pierson was hit by a pitch twice and had two stolen bases.

Against Huntington, LC lost by a score of 7-4.

LC scored two runs in the second and two more in the third, while Huntington scored three runs in the first, one in the second and one run in the third. In the fifth, HHS scored two runs.

LC totaled seven hits, with Butler going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including one home run.

Mahoney, Campbell, Pierson, Cawood, and Waits each had one hit. Mahoney had one steal, and Campbell hit a double with one run. Pierson was 1-for-1 with a double and one run. Davidson scored one run and walked once.

Waits was charged with the loss, pitching five innings, with four runs (four earned) on five hits and five walks. He struck out two. Cawood pitched in relief, allowing one earned run on one hit, and Campbell pitched one inning of relief, allowing one hit and no runs.

LC will play again on Wednesday, May 2 as they host Blanchester in a non-league game and then again on Thursday, May 3 as they host Peebles in a Southern Hills League game to wrap up league play for '12.
