RIPLEY — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs played tough for four quarters but came up short Tuesday night, falling to the Ripley Blue Jays, 72-43 in Southern Hills League play.
"Our kids played hard throughout the entire contest, and with not having our point guard (Tyler Davidson), back-up point guard (Austin Gorman) and wing/forward (Wes Pierson), we had difficulty against their (RHS's) pressure defense," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said.
The Mustangs were forced into numerous turnovers that were caused by their fatigue, according to McLaughlin.
"They (Ripley) had the luxury of having experienced subs, and we did not," he said.
Both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter, but the Blue Jays pulled away with a 24-point effort in the second frame. In the same quarter, LC scored 13. RHS out-scored LC, 19-16 in the third frame and dominated the fourth, 18-4.
Steven Collins (LC) scored 12 points, while adding 11 rebounds and three blocks. Austin Fawley led the Mustangs with 18 points.[[In-content Ad]]
