The Lynchburg-Clay boys soccer team gained a good non-conference victory on Tuesday evening, defeating the visiting Miami Trace Panthers by a 3-0 score.

It was a trio of players for LC who did the scoring in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference (LC) vs. South Central Ohio League (MT) matchup.

"The boys are playing really well right now," LC head coach Dennis West said. "We are getting good play from the entire roster.

"This was a well-played game defensively for us as well. They did outstanding."

The Mustangs (3-1-2) scored once in the opening half, with senior Alex Pinkerton placing the ball past the MT keeper 40 seconds into the match at 39:20 for the 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Austin Chisman.

LC's first goal of the second half was scored by junior Noah Scott with 25:43 left in the match.

Ethan Garrison kicked a picture-perfect goal that looped into the net from around 20 yards out to put LC ahead by three goals with 5:06 on the clock.

Morgan Ryan had a shutout at keeper, as MT had 14 shots at goal, and he finished with 11 saves, five in the first half. LC totaled 17 shots at goal.

"We had great keeper play from Morgan," West said.

Playing top-notch defense was junior Wes Smith.

"Wes has been the key to our whole defense all season long," West said. "He's been incredibly effective on defense."

LC will play again on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when they host the Eastern Brown Warriors in their SHAC matchup.

In their previous match before Tuesday, at Eastern Brown on Aug. 27, the LC boys defeated the host Warriors, 4-1 in a non-conference meeting.

That match saw junior Noah Scott score a hat-trick with two goals in the first half (24:05, 23:26) and a third goal in the second half (22:21) for his three total goals.

Also in that match, senior Alex Pinkerton had the fourth LC goal.

With an assist in the first half was Garrison, a freshman.
