Mustangs score 20 runs in win over West Union

West Union — With a score more suited for the gridiron than the baseball diamond, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs easily defeated the West Union Dragons, 20-0 Thursday at WUHS.
The Mustangs (7-2, 9-7) are on a five-game winning streak, as they are currently in first place of Division I of the Southern Hills League. LC has won six of their last seven games. In the current five-game winning streak, LC has outscored their opponents 79-19, and in their past seven games, they've outscored the opposition 97-31.
Thus far this season (16 games), LC has totaled 138 runs. In their past two games, the Mustangs have scored 38 runs. LC has scored 10 or more runs in a game seven times this season, including six times in their last seven games.
On Thursday, LC scored 10 runs in the first two innings with a six-run first and four-run second. In the top of the fifth the Mustangs added 10 runs, as they tallied seven hits, 10 walks and five hit-by-pitches, along with six errors committed by the Dragons for the game.
Of the seven LC hits, Joey Butler led at 2-for-3 including a double, three runs, two RBIs, two walks and two stolen bases.

Ryan Inman was 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs and two runs, while Wes Pierson finished 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs, three steals and was hit by a pitch twice.
Tyler Davidson was 1-for-3 with two runs, three steals, one RBI, one walk and was hit by a pitch. Chaz Lanier also had one hit (a triple) with two runs and two RBIs. Zachary Smith went 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Terry Campbell scored one run with one RBI, and he was also hit by a pitch, while Scott Cawood scored three runs as he was walked twice and hit by a pitch. He also collected one stolen base. Josh Bauer scored one run as he was walked once and stole one base. Gage Waits also scored one run, along with tallying one RBIs as he was walked twice.
The winning pitcher was Waits, as he went five innings due to the run-rule. He allowed just one hit and walked one batter, all while allowing no runs with five strikeouts.
LC will travel to Eastern Brown, Friday in Sardinia in an SHL contest. In their first meeting of the season, LC won 11-7 at LC.
