Mustangs score 11 runs in win over Warriors

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs scored four runs in the first inning, and from there never relinquished the lead, en route to an 11-7 Southern Hills League victory over the Eastern Brown Warriors, Thursday at LCHS.
LC (4-2, 6-7) scored four runs in the first and three more in the fifth inning. The Mustangs added four more in the sixth inning.
EB had one run in the top of the first, followed by a one-run fourth, a three-run third and two-run seventh.
LC tallied nine hits, led by Scott Cawood, Ryan Inman and Gage Waits each tallying two hits. The other hits were by Wes Pierson, Joey Butler and Chaz Lanier.
Inman was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Cawood was 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, a triple and three RBIs.

Pierson and Butler each had an RBI, as Butler also hit a triple, and Tyler Davidson drew three walks. Terry Campbell and Pierson each were hit by a pitch. Lanier and Waits each had a stolen base.
The pitching win was credited to Campbell, who went 5 1-3 innings. He faced 28 batters, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks. He struck out two. Pierson and Lanier pitched in relief for a combined 1 2-3 innings. The save went to Lanier.
LC will play again on Friday, as they will travel to face Peebles at 5 p.m.
