Saturday saw neither the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs nor the Miami Trace Panthers win their non-conference soccer match at MTHS, as they finished with a 2-2 score, where it was the first tie of the season for the visiting LC squad.

In the match, LC out-shot the MT Panthers, 12-7 as the score was tied at 1-1 at the halftime break. The Mustangs broke the tied score with 21:52 left in the match as Noah Scott scored a goal off a cross kick by Mason Jordan.

The first LC goal came with 26:40 left in the opening half where Gage Waits scored off a Chaz Lanier pass.

"This was a very disappointing result," LC coach Dennis West said of the Saturday match. "We struggled on offense the entire day.

"When we finally got the lead, we didn't play defense in the midfield, and it cost us the win."

MT scored their goals with 36:21 on the scoreboard in the first half and tied the match score with 6:20 remaining on a kick from 25 yards out. The first MT goal was off a kick from 20 yards away.

LC keeper Devin Pierson had five saves while MT keeper Michael McCoppin also collected five saves.

In Southern Hills Athletic League play, the Mustangs are still 3-0 on the season.

The Mustangs will host West Union, Wednesday at 6 p.m. at LCHS.
