Mustangs fall at Ripley

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs are still looking to get their first win of the season as they fell to the Ripley Blue Jays, 73-65 Friday night at RHS.
What is now the fourth straight loss by the Mustangs (0-4) to start the season began positive for the visitors as they led 17-14 after the first quarter and at the half by a score of 31-30 as RHS outscored LC, 16-14.
In the third, the Blue Jays led 50-49 as the home team outscored the Mustangs, 20-18. In the fourth, RHS pulled away at 23-16.
Leading LC was senior Alec Smith as he totaled 25 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. He was 11-of-15 from the field, including a 3-pointer. Smith also went 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Ryan Inman, a junior, totaled 14 points for the Mustangs, while adding a 4-of-6 night from the free-throw line, along with seven assists, six rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Devin Pierson followed with 13 points (with two 3-pointers), two assists and four rebounds.
Also scoring for LC was senior Jacob Skaggs with eight points (one 3-pointer), while teammates Gage Waits (a junior) finished with three points and Tyler Allen (a senior) scored two.

Waits added six assists and one rebound, while Skaggs totaled one assist and two rebounds. Allen finished with two assists and one rebound. Josh Goble had one assist and one rebound.
The Mustangs totaled 18 turnovers.
For RHS, they were led by Donte Bennett with 17 points, followed by Jaylan Williams with 12, Andrew Inskeep with 11 and Brad Kirschner with 10.
RHS had 10 turnovers and finished 8-of-15 from the free-throw line.
The Mustangs will next play again on Tuesday, Dec. 18 as they travel to face Peebles.
