Mustangs fall to Blue Jays

DODSONVILLE — On Friday night, at Lynchburg-Clay High School, the Mustangs were unable to get past the Ripley Blue Jays, falling by a score of 73-62.
Facing one of the best perimeter shooting teams in the area, the LC Mustangs were unable to counter the long-range shooting of the Blue Jays, who came out 6-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half.
LC (0-1, 1-2) made some adjustments at the half, and in the final two quarters Ripley did not make a single 3-pointer. What Ripley didn't make in 3-pointers, the Blue Jays made up for in drives to the basket.
"Our defense was slow to recover after closing out," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said. "We were worried about the 3-point shot, that we weren't able to keep people in front of us, but we did some things well, also."
Gage Waits led the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points.
Tyler Davidson scored 14, and Ryan Inman turned in another solid performance with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks.
"Our guys are still learning how to play at this level consistently," McLaughlin said. "We've got a lot of room for improvement, but the guys are working hard to become better."
The Mustangs fall to 1-2 overall, 0-1 in the Southern Hills League. LC will play again on Friday, Dec. 16 against SHL and Highland County rival Whiteoak at WHS.[[In-content Ad]]
