Mustangs drop weekend game to Broncos

DODSONVILLE — After winning two consecutive games in as many days, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs couldn't win a third straight game, falling to the Western Brown Broncos, 11-8 Saturday at LCHS.

In the non-league game, scoring was fierce in the first two innings, with the scored tied at one after one inning. LC led 5-4 after two innings played.

The scored was tied at four runs each in the fourth with WB adding one run to their side of the scoreboard, and in the fifth WB added five runs but were answered with a four-run fifth by LC.

Western Brown took a two-run lead in the sixth with another run, making the score 10-8. WB scored one more run in the seventh for their 11-run total.

The loss on the hill was charged to Scott Cawood, who threw 100 pitches, 60 for strikes in five innings. Cawood finished with four strikeouts.

Ryan Inman also pitched for LC in relief, tossing 34 pitches, 17 for strikes.

Each team had nine hits and two errors.

At the plate for LC, Gage Waits, Chaz Lanier and Cawood each hit a double, while Joey Butler hit a triple. Tyler Davidson, Waits and Butler each collected an RBI, while Cawood totaled two RBIs.

Waits had two stolen bases.
