Mustangs defeat Peebles to wrap up SHL play

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs wrapped up their '12 Southern Hills League baseball slate as they run-ruled the Peebles Indians, 13-3 in six innings Thursday at LCHS.

The win puts LC at 11-2 for the year in SHL play (14-9 overall), as they already clinched the Division I SHL crown earlier this season for the third straight year.

On Thursday, LC scored eight runs in the first two innings combined, with a three-run first and five-run second. In the fourth, LC added two runs, and in the fifth, the Mustangs wrapped up the game with three runs.

Leading LC at the plate was Gage Waits at 3-for-4 with three runs and two stolen bases. Terry Campbell was 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Chaz Lanier was 2-for-2 with four runs, three RBIs and two walks.


[[In-content Ad]]Joey Butler, Tyler Davidson, and Josh Bauer each had one hit. Butler was 1-for-2 with four RBIs and two walks, while Davidson tallied three runs. Bauer scored one run.

Scott Cawood walked once and had one RBI, while Wes Pierson totaled two runs, two RBIs, one walk and was hit by a pitch.

For the game, LC totaled 13 runs, 11 RBIs and 10 hits, while forcing six walks.

The pitching win went to Terry Campbell, who went five innings on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks. Campbell (4-3) finished with six strikeouts.
