The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs traveled six miles down US Route 50 Friday evening and visited their Southern Hills Athletic Conference counterpart, the Fayetteville Rockets.

In a back-and-forth physical atmosphere, the Mustangs found themselves on the winning side of the scoreboard after 32 minutes of play, taking home an 87-77 victory in their non-conference meeting of the season.

The first quarter saw Lynchburg-Clay jump out to a 22-19 lead, with five different Mustangs landing in the scoring column.

LC was able to win the next quarter, outscoring the Rockets, 22-18 to take a halftime lead of 44-37.

Fayetteville won the third by one point at 20-19, and the Mustangs held on in the fourth, outscoring their hosts 24-20.

“This was a great team win,”  Lynchburg-Clay head coach Matt Carson said. “To get nine guys in the scoring column and come up with some big defensive stops at the end was huge.”

Of the aforementioned nine, Christian Inman led LC with a team-high 20 points.

“At different times, we had multiple guys who were hitting shots, and we were able to find the hot hand and play very good team basketball in critical spots (Friday)," Carson said.
