Mustangs cool off Dragons, Cawood tosses 1-hitter

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs were led at the plate by senior Wes Pierson, and from there the rest of his teammates followed a similar path, as LC defeated the West Union Dragons, 15-2 Tuesday in a Southern Hills League win.

Pierson finished the five-inning game against WU at 3-for-4 with five RBIs, one run and three triples.

Tyler Davidson was 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Davidson also drew one of 10 LC walks.

The scoring for LC was two runs in the first and one more in the second for a 3-2 lead, following a two-run top of the second by WU.


[[In-content Ad]]In the third, LC put nine runs on the scoreboard and three more in the fourth.

Also tallying one hit were Zach Mahoney, Ryan Inman, Joey Butler, Chaz Lanier and Gage Waits.

Drawing the remaining walks were Mahoney, Inman, Scott Cawood, Joey Butler (3), Josh Bauer, Lanier and Waits.

Collecting the rest of the RBIs were Mahoney (2), Butler and Lanier. Butler also had a double, and Lanier hit a triple.

Mahoney, Cawood, Butler (2) and Waits combined for the five LC stolen bases.

The pitching win went to Cawood, who pitched five innings. In the 19 batters faced, Cawood, who threw 61 pitches, allowed two runs (two earned) on one hit and two walks. He struck out five batters.
