Mustangs advance to sectional final

WAVERLY — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs moved onto the next round of the Division II SE District tournament, as they defeated the Northwest Mohawks, 63-49.
The Tuesday sectional semifinal win moves No. 6 seeded LC to a game with the No. 3 seeded Peebles Indians this Saturday at Waverly High School, with a start time of 8 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the two teams as LC lost both meetings by scores of 70-66 in overtime and 61-52.
This was the seventh straight win for the Mustangs, as they haven't lost since Jan. 29.
In the Mustangs' sectional semifinal game, LC led 22-12 at the completion of the first quarter, followed by a halftime advantage of 36-24 as LC outscored the No. 11 Mohawks of NWHS, 14-12 in the second.

As for the third quarter, LC led 18-14, and in the final frame, the Mohawks won the frame, 11-9.
Senior Alec Smith led LC with 22 points and eight rebounds. He was followed by Devin Pierson in scoring with 20 points. The freshman also added four assists.
Ryan Inman, a junior, totaled nine points and seven rebounds, and junior Gage Waits scored 12 points while adding three assists and three steals.
