McClain wrestlers runners-up at Xenia Invitational

XENIA — The McClain Tiger wrestlers continued their upward swing this season as they were able to capture the team runner-up trophy for the second week in a row, this time at the Xenia Invitational Tournament.

Winning the event was Worthington Kilbourne at 262, followed by MHS at 168. In third was Cincinnati Winton Woods at 161, and in fourth was Cincinnati Turpin with 150 points. Xenia was fifth at 141. The rest of the standings included: Goshen (126), Dayton Thurgood Marshall (115), Dayton Belmont (58) and Dayton Dunbar (42).

The Tigers were led by freshman Jamaine Barnhart (113 pounds) and senior captains Roscoe East (170) and Brandon Davis (220) as they each finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes.  

Also for MHS, Jake Badgley (138), senior captain Cody Black (145) and Dylan Trefz (285) all garnered third-place medals.  

The top four finishers in each weight class earned placement points.  

Gaining fourth-place points for the Tigers were:  Ethan Paul (160), Gable Smith (182) and Lucas Unger (195).

Fifth-place finishers were Sid Wardlow (126), senior captain Coty Barnhart (132) and Jarrett Milnes (195).

Kaleb Smith (132) finished sixth, Kylee Stroud finished seventh at 106 pounds and Brandon Nebbergall (170) finished eighth.

The Tigers will split their squad on Saturday, Dec. 15, sending their JV team to the Circleville JV Key Club Tournament and the varsity team to travel to Troy Christian High School to compete in the Troy Christian Holiday Tournament. The Troy Christian tournament will feature state championship teams and individuals from both Ohio and Michigan.
