McClain struggles in loss to Lady Falcons

For one quarter, the McClain Lady Tigers played close to even with the defending South Central Ohio League champion Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons. For the next three quarters, not so much, as the host MHS squad lost 65-30.
After the first quarter, MHS trailed by just five points at 23-18, then for the next 24 minutes they totaled just 12 points, with a two-point second and consecutive five-point frames in the second half.
In the meantime, CM (3-0, 5-1) scored 11 points in the second, 14 in the third and 17 in the final quarter.
MHS (1-2, 1-3) made zero shots from the field in the fourth quarter, with the five points coming all from the free-throw line.
Clinton-Massie was led by Kasey Uetrecht with 22 points, followed by Sydney Brackemyre with 11 and Mary Moyer with 10.
Miquela Sanoro followed with seven points, and Erin Fair totaled five. Also scoring were Brianna Machado (2), Brittany Smith (4), Allyson Monnin (2) and Logan Frederick (2).
CM was 17-of-23 from the free-throw line (74 percent). Sanoro and Uetrecht each made a 3-pointer.
For MHS, they were led in scoring by Shania Massie with 11, followed by Tara Karnes with eight, as she scored six points in the first quarter.

Katy Unger followed with five, as did Alli Willett. Lauren Rayburn scored one point off a free throw.
The Lady Tigers were 7-of-21 from the free-throw line (32 percent), and Massie made one 3-pointer for MHS.

MHS plays again on Thursday as they travel to Unioto. On Saturday, MHS travels to East Clinton for an afternoon game.
