The McClain Tigers football program hosted their only 7-on-7 preseason scrimmage Wednesday morning as they faced the Southeastern Panthers and the Amanda Clearcreek Aces at McClain Field.
The three-team event was played where first and second teams of all three schools faced each other in a time frame of two hours. [[In-content Ad]]All three teams worked on a variety of passing plays, as they were preparing to start two-a-day practices later in the week or this Monday, depending on when their respective school year begins.
McClain head coach Randy Closson spoke about how his team has prepared over the summer, as they were set to begin two-a-day practices the following day.
“This summer, headed into two-a-days, we are looking to build off last season’s success,” Closson said.
The success Closson is speaking of is the 2012 season, where the Tigers finished with a 7-3 record, finishing ninth in the former Region 12, one spot away from the postseason.
“We’ve had better numbers this summer than in past years, and we have a good core of players who were juniors last season leading the team as seniors right now,” Closson said. “They have come back, accepted their leadership roles and have done a good job providing that leadership this summer.
“We want them to continue to be leaders throughout the season. We are in a good spot headed into two-a-days.”
