McClain falls in battle of Tigers; drop game to Waverly

GREENFIELD — The McClain Tiger baseball team lost to Waverly 8-5, in a hard-fought battle at Mitchell Park, Tuesday.

Junior Jordan Boles pitched 4 1-3 innings, picking up his first loss on the season for MHS. Boles struck out four, while walking only one batter. Boles gave up five runs, all earned.  

Boles was relieved by Kyle Flora, who faced 16 Waverly batters, allowing three earned runs.

"I thought Jordan pitched a great game. He threw strikes, and had great command of his breaking pitch," MHS head coach Brandon Streitenberger said.

The Tigers pounded out eight hits on the game, and were led at the plate by Brent Shannon. Shannon was 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.  

Boles also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Waverly finished with 13 hits and two errors, scoring one run in each of the first two innings, along with a five-run fifth. They added one final run in the top of the seventh.

MHS scored one run in the second, four runs in the fourth, and their final run came in the fifth inning.

The Tigers of McClain finished with zero errors.

McClain hosts London Wednesday, in an South Central Ohio League contest. The JV game is at London.

The loss drops MHS to 1-7 overall.
