McClain ends soccer season in sectional final

McClain's '12 boys soccer season came to an end Saturday afternoon, as they were defeated 4-2 in their Division II SE District Sectional Final match against the Circleville Tigers at CHS.
The loss vs. No. 2 seeded Circleville ends McClain's season at 3-11-2 overall, with one postseason win, a 2-1 win in the sectional semifinals against Hillsboro last week at Richards Memorial Field in Hillsboro.
"This season had its ups and downs, but overall I thought it was a good season despite our record," MHS coach Jon Chamblin said. "It was a rebuilding year for us and had to learn to play together all over again.
"I look forward to next season. We will have gained some experience from the this year and with some great talent returning we should have a great season next year."
MHS trailed 2-1 at halftime against Circleville.
[[In-content Ad]]Scoring both goals for McClain was junior Juan (Nic) Rivas with a goal in each half.
Ben Chamblin played at goal for the Tigers as regular keeper Tyler McGuire was unable to play in the sectional match.
"Ben played an oustanding game as goal keeper coming up with numerous great saves," Jon Chamblin said. "The team played very well and did not give up."
Seniors for the McClain Tigers were Ben Chamblin and Tyler McGuire.
"Tyler did a great job at keeper this year, even though he had never played before he adapted well and had a great season," Chamblin said. "Ben had a great season as well, giving us several goals and assists. He was a key player on this years team coming up with some great goals when we really needed them. Both seniors will be sadly missed.
"I would like to thank the kids and parents for a great season and look forward to next year."
The Circleville Tigers will now face the Waverly Tigers in a district semifinal match on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Valley High School, starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Waverly defeated No. 1 seeded Unioto 3-2. In the other district match this Wednesday, Fairfield-Union will face Vincent Warren at 7 p.m. To get to that match, Fairfield-Union defeated Washington 3-0 and Warren defeated Marietta 2-1 in overtime, Saturday.
