WILMINGTON — The McClain Tiger Sharks faced Clinton-Massie in their first SCOL swim meet of the season, with both the boys and girls winning their meets with the girls winning 54-37 and boys 52-36.

The Lady Tiger Sharks took first place in all but two events against CM.

Seniors Trevor Figgins and Savannah Olaker, along with junior Morgan Dettwiller, took first place in all four of their events.

“Tonight this team proved what a few girls can do when they have the commitment and dedication. They work so hard every day in the pool with the knowledge that because of our small numbers (only six swimmers), we won’t have many tallies in the win column, McClain girls coach Natalie Eaton said. "Our goal tonight was the same as every other meet, go out and strive for your personal best.

"That drive earned us a victory over a much larger team.  It’s tough to be competitive when we cannot fill every event.  But tonight we did just that. It was a great thing to be a part of. I am so proud of my girls and the successes they have achieved.”

McClain boys swimming coach Bradley George also spoke about the boys' win on Thursday.

“The boys showed that we may be small and young, but they are still a force to be reckoned with. In just two meets, the boys are showing good team quality, and times are improving not only since the start of this season, but even over a lot of times we ended with last season," George said. "This was one of the few opportunities we have to swim in a meter pool, and the times the guys were pulling off were great.

"We had a swimmer out sick (Thursday), and Kyle Brown, one of my seniors, stepped up and swam four laps of freestyle right after swimming four laps of breaststroke, so we wouldn’t have to scratch our 400 Freestyle relay team. Our lone freshman, Tommy Free, is coming off the blocks with a lot of promise in both sprints and distance races.  He’s definitely giving Adomas Fabin a good challenge.”

McClain’s next swim meet will be on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Chillicothe at 1 p.m. The first home meet will be Thursday, Dec. 12 against Chillicothe and Little Miami High Schools. The meet will start at 4:30 p.m.
