McClain earns shutout win against Blanchester

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers defeated Blanchester, Thursday by a shutout effort and error-free softball, defeating the Lady Wildcats, 8-0.
Pitcher Cierra Landrum hurled her first shutout of the season, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six.
McClain's defense played lights out, having no miscues, as MHS moves to 10-3 overall. They are 5-0 in the SCOL.

"We finally put a perfect defensive game together. I am so proud of the girls for committing to get better, as they put the work in to clean our defense up," MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. "Cierra has been doing an outstanding job. She's hitting her spots and keeping her composure.
"Offensively, I thought we came out a little sluggish, but Emily (Sterling) woke us up with that line drive she hit. She has had some huge hits for us this season."
The Lady Tigers struck first in the bottom of the second inning as senior Kate Crabtree smoked a double into the gap. Crabtree scored as senior Emily Sterling attempted to steal second but was thrown out, and Crabtree trotted across the plate to put the Lady Tigers on the board.
The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when the Lady Tigers added four more runs. The fifth inning started with Alli Willett hitting a single. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored off of a Shania Massie single.
Massie moved to second on a Jenna Perie base hit, followed by Morgan Dettwiller reaching the bases on a fielder's choice, as Massie was forced out at second. Crabtree walked to load the bases for senior Sterling with two outs. Sterling laced a double into the left-field gap to empty the bases for three RBIs.
MHS added three more runs in the sixth.
Landrum singled, and Massie singled, putting two runners on the bases. Perie drew a walk, and sophomore Katy Unger drove two runners with a base hit.
Perie's courtesy runner, Sarah Thompson, scored McClain's final run, taking home on an errant throw to first base.
For McClain, Landrum, Massie and Perie finished with two hits, and Unger and Crabtree each went 1-for-1.
Sterling and Willett finished with one hit apiece.
